Technology

The Technology Practice works with leading technology hardware and equipment firms, and organisations providing computer software and services

Techonology plays a major part in the drive towards a sustainable energy economy; the twin pillars of which are renewable energy and energy efficiency.  From production to distribution and consumption, technological innovation is critical across the energy value chain.

Clean Energy

Clean Energy reduces dependence on fossil fuels, pollution and waste from energy generation, distribution and consumption.  It comprises products, processes and services that are designed to enable sustainable use of energy.

Wilbury Stratton’s technology clients are involved in:

  • Energy conversion, supply and conservation
  • ICT Sustainability

We also support those organisations that lead in consultancy across the clean energy community.

Modern ‘smart’ grids allow large-scale integration of clean low-carbon generation, distributed generation, energy storage and efficiency and demand reponse technologies. At the same time electricity access can be expanded and costs to consumers kept low.

ICT Sustainability aligns all IT processes and practices with the core principles of sustainability (reduce, reuse and recycle), and uses IT innovatively in business processes.  Elements include:

  • Product longevity
  • Data centre design and power
  • Software and deployment optimisation
  • Materials recycling
  • Telecommuting

Sustainability issues surface with innovation. Technological advances in optimisation have resulted in cloud computing, allowing servers and storage devices to be shared and utilised.   Issues with siting, cooling and electricity sourcing need to be addressed if such initiatives meet ICT Sustainability principles.
